Summer Training - ideas wanted

Postby B-Stead » Tue Jun 26, 2012 4:35 pm

Anyone got any new workouts to consider for the off-season ?

Been doing my usual stuff (mtn biking, gym training) but looking for anything new - http://www.youtube.com/user/mbelangerjr

Anyone do any boxing or have any MMA workouts? I suspect those would be good to keep in shape.

p.s. Frank - been thinking about soccer again, uh oh knees!

Oh right, I forgot to add in, I need workouts that are relatively knee-safe. Boxes are out except for maybe one a week.

Thanks for sending. What else ya got ?

As mentioned before. Pick up a Skiers Edge.

Thinking about it is ok. Participating in it is not.

Paddleboard.

Balance, stamina, core strength. You can use it in the ocean, lake or even a river. Its fun.

Do I have to come over there and beat you with an old ski pole?

Yes. Played a bit today and feel really good. I can do it. It's great conditioning, soccer.

For some reason my employer just contracted with core performance http://www.coreperformance.com/ (I think they felt guilty for giving us free access to all kind of snacks. You know when they don't think long term health when they stock on Monster Energy drinks!)
We have a local coach who teaches group classes. Good news for me since I really haven't recovered after ankle surgery a couple of years ago. My last 2 ski seasons have sucked big time.

Anyway, the classes don't feel that hard, but in retrospect they kick butts. One of my coworker is a marathon runner and he quit after doing one class. He says he got too sore and that messes up with his running. Wimp!
Lots of plank, squat (you probably wouldn't like that) some TRX stuff, lunges. Good stuff. I guess this upcoming season will show if this stuff works.

Good stuff Bruno, I need to do more plank/core stuff so as to avoid my repeat lower back pain. I do like the TRX and have one setup in the basement. Will post a pic or two next time I'm on.
