Hand position on poles

Postby Old School » Wed Feb 24, 2016 6:15 pm

I have recently noticed that some world cup and Nor-Am competitors grip their poles half way down the grip. Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone have any thoughts?

I have noticed this as well, no real idea why either.

The only thing I can think of is that it improves balance of the pole requiring less force from one's wrist to lift the front of the pole?

A lot of teams coach that way. Finger and thumb around the bottom of the grip making an ok sign. Makes for lighter pole plants and doesn't allow you to use them as as much of a crutch.

I skied that way with Scott poles but the grips on the Ziplines don't seem to allow for it as well.
