Suggestions on ski length for Hart F17s?

Postby Hanklem » Tue Jan 08, 2013 10:35 pm

Want some advice on which length ski to choose.

Background: I'm 47 and have been skiing moguls a loooooong time. I'm just wrapping up 25 years on a pair of Atomic SL3s (a phenomenal ski, laugh all you want ;-), and am about to invest in a new pair of Hart F17s (Classics most likely).

I'm 5'11"/160lbs and my old Atomics were perfect at 195cm, but I know that today's skis run shorter. So what length should I be looking at in the Hart F17s? I'm an aggressive skier and need to be able to do a lot of quick turning and jumping around, but at the same time am used to a longer ski with its speed, stability and edging capabilities.

Suggestions?

Thx!

You might want to try the Dynastar Twisters. Many of the "older bumpers " are using them. They tend to be softer than the F-17's. lenght wise you might consider either the 182's or the 175's. If you are coming off the 195's the 182's would work just fine. IMHO
See the post in the General Mogul Skiing section on Twisters.

You will be happy on either the 175 or the step up size. I would lean towards the 175 in your case. The classic is also going to be a much friendlier ski outside of the moguls.

Hi there!

I am from Holland ( yes that flat country), I learned mogul skiing years ago from Henri Authier, just before the carvers became popular. I am just hooked to moguls but never managed to get good mogul ski here.
Now I would like to buy a pair in the USA. I am 167 cm, 54 kg
What length and skis would you recommend?

Mid February I am in Colorado…So may be I can manage to have a good pair of skis.
Thanks

What are the rules/parameters to choose the right ski length ?

For example I'm 1m86 , 75kg . amateur but good mogulskier with 1m90 k2 triaxial.

Hey Maximilien-

After converting your stats to feet and pounds  (that's 6'1", 165 for everyone else reading this) I'd recommend going with the longer lengths in moguls skis. So in the Twister that would be the 182. Definitely wouldn't go any shorter than that given your height.
